It uses the concept of “ego states” to look at how we behave in different situations: when one state is dominant we will tend to behave one way, and when another state is dominant we behave in another way.
States can be affected by trauma, and states may be in conflict with one another, or can be persuaded to help one another.
Under hypnosis states which may normally be under the threshold of awareness may come forward and join in the dialogue.
